An accessible campus for everyone

An-Najah National University is committed to providing an accessible campus that enables students, staff and visitors with disabilities to move safely, use University facilities independently and take full part in academic and campus life. Accessibility is built into campus planning, the design of new buildings and the renovation of existing ones, in line with the University’s Disability Access and Inclusion Policy and the Palestine Green Building Guideline 2024. The Disability Support Office (DSO) coordinates these efforts and works with University units to identify and remove remaining barriers.

Accessible buildings and pathways

• Ramps and step-free access: the University’s main buildings and public areas have ramps or step-free entrances with non-slip surfaces and handrails, and pedestrian pathways connect academic buildings, laboratories, libraries and administrative offices.

• Elevators: multi-storey buildings are equipped with elevators with Braille buttons and space for wheelchair users.

• Accessible toilets: accessible toilets with grab bars, wide doors and sufficient turning space are provided in the University’s buildings.

• Tactile guidance and signage: tactile guidance paths along main campus pathways and accessible, high-contrast signage help people with visual impairments find their way.

• Designated parking: reserved parking spaces for people with disabilities are located close to building entrances, with level access routes to the main doors.

• Accessible transport: a dedicated vehicle helps students with disabilities move between campus buildings and facilities.

Accessible learning spaces

• Classrooms and libraries: reserved wheelchair spaces, height-adjustable desks, accessible shelving and computer terminals, and priority seating where needed.

• Computer Lab for the Blind: computers with screen-reader and magnification software, Braille displays and a Braille printer for converting study materials into Braille. The lab offers free Braille printing to students with visual impairments from An-Najah and other institutions, and computer training for students and schools.

• Assistive devices for communication disorders: devices and technology support for students with hearing, speech or language impairments.

• Wheelchairs and mobility aids: available to support students with mobility impairments on campus.

Specialised services for students and the community

• Prosthetic and Alternative Limbs Clinic: established in 2007, the clinic fits upper and lower prosthetic limbs and provides follow-up care and physical therapy. Financial support covering all or part of the cost is available to those in need.

• Palestinian Childhood Institute: specialised clinics for the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

Impact and reach

• Around 450 students and 48 employees with disabilities currently benefit from the University’s accessible facilities and services.

• More than 88 new students with disabilities enrolled in the 2024–2025 academic year.

• The facilities are used daily by members of the University community and by the public through the University’s clinics and outreach programmes.

University buildings are listed on the campus maps with facility codes, and the University’s Najah2Twin interactive campus map shows accessible entrances and pedestrian routes.

Accessible Facilities for People with Disabilities

1. Special Pathways & Ramps:

All buildings and public areas feature step-free access or ramps with compliant slope and non-slip surfaces. These are complemented by handrails, tactile paving for the visually impaired, and high-contrast signage.

2. Computer Lab for the Blind:

Equipped with Braille books, screen-reader software, magnification tools, and internet access, enabling visually impaired students to fully participate in academic activities.

3. Prosthetics Clinic:

A specialized clinic serving students and the community, offering prosthetic device fabrication, fitting, and follow-up free of charge.

4. Assistive Devices for Communication Disorders:

Devices and technology support for students with hearing, speech, or language impairments.

5. Accessible Classrooms and Libraries:

   • Height-adjustable desks

   • Reserved wheelchair spaces

   • Assistive listening systems

   • Accessible shelving and computer terminals

6. Designated Parking:

Clearly marked and located closest to building entrances, with flat access routes to the main doors.

7. Accessible Toilets:

Available in every building, equipped with grab bars, wide doors, emergency alarms, and sufficient turning radius.

8. Elevators with Accessibility Features:

All multi-floor buildings have elevators equipped with Braille buttons, audio floor announcements, and wheelchair space.

9. Accessible Campus Transport:

Shuttle buses with ramps, priority seating, and nearby sheltered stops.

Impact and Reach

• 450 students with disabilities and 48 employees with disabilities currently benefit from these services.

• Over 88 newly registered students with disabilities joined during 2024–2025.

• The facilities are used daily by both campus community members and the public (through clinics and outreach programs).

• All university buildings are internally equipped to support accessibility and are integrated into campus maps with facility 

• codes to ensure clear guidance and ease of navigation.
